At the end of August, Minelab presented a new device. It has got the name ‘Manticore’ after the mythological monster with a lion body, man head, and scorpio tail. When watching the presentation, I’ve concluded that this is a continuation of Minelab CTX 3030 series. This means that this is a premium segment of Minelab metal detectors.
It will hit the market at the end of November (or Diciembre, but you can read about new Deus 2, as for me it’s worth the money). Minelab Manticore pre-order price – $1599 and 1600 Euros (more taxes in Europe).

Minelab Manticore is a new underwater multi-frequency metal detector by Minelab with an improved Multi IQ+ technology that makes this metal detector the most powerful among Minelab metal detectors operating on several frequencies simultaneously. Power increment is about 50%. Minelab Manticore includes all the best practices of Equinox and the CTX 3030 series. This device is the golden mean that contains all the advantages of two top-rated series of Minelab metal detectors.
At first sight, the Minelab Manticore design resembles the one of Equinox. It has a straight shaft control unit with a modern design, plus a more convenient and ergonomic armrest.
As for the device characteristics, we can say in advance that its electronic components are not worse than these of top-rated metal detectors. It has 12 search modes, automatic ground balance, you can set the recovery speed, two-dimension discrimination mask, Fe values, etc. The metal detector has rather sophisticated functionality.
Of course, it uses a famous Minelab – MULTI IQ+ technology. As the manufacturer states, Manticore has 50% more performance power than common models. It was also mentioned that Manticore has an improved target recognition mechanism. Extremely accurate target identification numbers will enable precisely including or excluding any metal objects.
We can also add that the device is stated to be waterproof, and it is possible to submerge it up to 5 m deep, as well as it has a 6000 mAh accumulator.
The metal detector is equipped with M11 (11″ round DD) coil and, at option, with coils M8 (8″x5,5″ elliptical DD coil) and M15 (15″x12″ elliptical DD). The shaft is adjustable.
UPD. At the beginning of 2023, the second Minelab Manticore configuration is expected (most likely with two coils, standart M11 (11″ round DD) and M8.
